September 1865 - The Lockport Ladies' Relief Society and Home for the Friendless is organized to dispense
relief to needy families. February 1871 – Charter created after the need for a permanent home for friendless and destitute children becomes apparent. December 1871 - $3,000 raised by subscription & memberships, matched by $3,500 from Board of Supervisors - residence on High St. purchased.
The New York State Governor's summer residence, Wyndham Lawn, is purchased in 1892 for $30,000.
The dedicated staff at Wyndham Lawn cared for thousands of orphan or destitute children over the following decades. Their mission was to raise these children in an environment that replicated that of the "average" family of the day.
The young ladies learned life skills while the young men focused on trade skills including carpentry and painting.
By 1958, the campus had grown dramatically and the focus had shifted from caring for orphans to helping at-risk youth.
In 1999, the Wyndham Lawn Home for Children and the Randolph Children's Home merged to become a single organization better suited to meet the diverse needs of at-risk youth and their families.
